Sharpless 2-240

So I thought I would go ahead and post this. Actually it was a lot of fun. For those of you who have done Sh2-240 you know you need a wide field and good decent exposure. I'm not sure I got enough of either. (and I was binned 2x2 at f/4 with the H-Alpha).

Frequently, I do a high bin (4x4) test image for 30 seconds or so to verify object framing. For this guy, I binned 5x5 and still couldn't see anything in the test image. Talk about your faint fuzzies.

The full size image is here:

Processing was, well, interesting. A lot of effort to see the nebula so yes, overprocessing is rampant here. I deliberately set the background high to see more structure.

So it was a lot of fun, but it's already on my list for next year as a retry.

Thanks for posting that image. You have been doing some really nice work lately and it really shows in this view of Semeis 147. I have never tried imaging it myself but I have observed some of the brighter filaments with my 16" Newtonian.

Jim,

Good job at tackling this subject! I had a window of opportunity last weekend to shoot *something*, and I chickened out of trying this one. Someday I'll get it....

Thanks for the comments guys...

Richard,
Do you mean you can see the brighter filements visually? That would be impressive - speaks well of your skies and equipment.

Eric,
This image was a bit of a lark (although it took the better part of an evening). Sounds like you intend a more serious effort. It would be exciting to see - I hope you get to it sometime.

That's pretty impressive. You must have some very clear air above.
