Zodiacal light

On my recent trip to Hawaii Island I had a chance to observe the winter skies from Mauna Kea, site of world famous observatories. The winter Milky Way was very prominent, but what really stood out was the Zodiacal light which stood high in the western sky, reaching almost to the zenith. This is just a 5 second exposure taken with an 18mm wide field lens on my Sony digital camera.

A very beautiful capture. In all the years I have only had the opportunity to be in the right place and under the right conditions a small handful of times to see it - and never with a camera at hand

Thanks for a very beautiful picture. Did you ever try to photograph the gegenschein? I have tried to see it from Alpine, but only looked in the middle of the night. Dave Erickson says to look for it early. Anyone else have any luck?
