Hi All,

This was taken in fairly good seeing on 12th October 2006 03:42UT.

I used a very high gain setting for this (919), so in order to deal
with the noise tried various stack sizes from 200 to 1200. The best
results were at around 1000 which could take more wavelet processing
to bring out the detail while keeping the noise down to reasonable
levels, finished off with a mild dose of Noiseware Community Edition
NR s/w.

10in f4.8 Newtonian, DMK 21AF04, 5x PowerMate, red filter, Registax
v4, PSE 5, 1/60s, 1200/6000 frames, MAP: 11x128, Noiseware CE, enlarged 2x

Regards,
Stefan

Hi Stefan -

A nice image and interesting discussion on it in the lunar forum. I very often have my DMK camera set to a gain level around 900 (all of the streams captured in my August session were at gain=903). My workflow is different, but I find it OK to work with a stack of 100-150 frames, keeping the tolerance for sharpness quite high. I think your thought to use a green filter might have been helpful here. But a very good result nonetheless.

best -
Alan

Hi Stefan,

Excellent image, 1000 frames used to be the magic number of frames for me too when I was using the DMK camera.

Clear and steady skies,
