Has anyone tryed the new meade LPI? if so how is it and how ease is it to work. I have an 11 year old who has an XT10i dob I would like to get it for her IF its not to complex for her to work it. She has no tracking on her scope so i was thinking that the LPI would be ok for bright images.

Thanks

Bob

The XT10i does not track, so it may be a little hard to image planets. It is possible, but don't use too much power.

I have used an LPI for almost two years. I recently purchased a Philips ToUcam, and have used it for eight sessions. My most recent image with the ToUcam can be viewed here:

I have attached an image I took with the LPI only 30 minutes after the ToUcam shot. I had not used the LPI for a while and thought it would be an interesting comparison. Same scope and setup.

Philips ToUcam Pro:
1. Focusing is much easier since the live frame rate is many times that of the LPI
2. The image scale is larger
3. The color is superior
4. Many more settings to adjust and tweak

Meade LPI Pro:
1. Free with my scope!
2. Software automatically filters and processes as it collects
3. Few settings to adjust and tweak - easy to get started

I hope this helps. If you questions, let me know.

Peter
