I need some help with RegStax V3. I have the following setup 12” Lx200 GPS, Toucam 740 and a TV 3x Barlow. I use Qfocus for image capture. When I image Jupiter the image on my computer screen is too big to use RegStax’s 256 alignment box. I am trying to align on the entire planet image. However, when I try the 512 alignment box I get the “ Alignment feature too close to image border” message. I get this message even after I changed the processing area to 1024. I do not have this problem with a 2X Barlow since the image fits within a 256 alignment box. Seeing has not allowed me to try to align on a surface feature. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Harold,

I think the problem is that the typical Toucam screen size is 640x480, which means the 512 box won't fit on the screen. I use the 256 and even the 128 box for my images, even though Jupiter is bigger than both with good success.

A variable size imaging box is a suggestion I want to make to Cor when he starts designing Registax 4.

Good luck

Harold,
Changing the processing area to 1024 only effects the size of the area used during wavelet processing, not alignment. I've had some success choosing a 128 or 256 alignment size and then selecting an area on Jupiter's disk that contains contrasting features. Even if the focus is not dead on or the seeing is bad, that's about the best you can do.
Another suggestion (if you're not already doing this) is to click the Framelist tab on the right side of the Align window, then click on "Frame 1" and use the "down arrow" key on your keyboard to scroll through the list of frames. When you see the one that has the best contrast/seeing, move your mouse over the planet disk to choose an alignment area. This may prove to give you better alignment than just accepting Frame 1 as having the best quality.

Hello Harold,

By using Virtualdub you could use the resize filter. Check 'expand frame and leterbox'. Set resize options to same size as original. Set new frame width and height to what you want. This will expand your original avi size with a border and allow the larger alignment box to clear the edges of the frame. I am not sure how Registax will treat the border but it may work.

A lot of messing around so it may be easier to scroll through the avi and uncheck (or with something like Virtualdub delete) the bad frames.
