Hi:

I am interested in getting into deep space CCD imaging. I have a Meade LX200Gps 12" f10. I can use it at f6.3 or f5 using a reducer. I would like to kindly get everyones input about which of these cameras would shorten my learning curve and provide best results. Because of the lx200 fork mount design I am hoping to go with the one that gives me good image with shortest exposure time. Which of these cameras would be good at longer focal lenghts. I am worried about vignetting using the f5 reducer and I don't even know if this makes any difference with these chip sizes. I am willing to spend around $3500. You input is highly appreciated
kindest regards

Based on the criteria you listed, the ST-9 is the camera that would most closely match your requirements:

* Shortest exposure times (because of bigger pixels.) You probably wouldn't use the reducer if you get the ST-9.

* Larger pixels are a better match for long focal lengths.

* Using the reducer with the smaller-pixel cameras will help, but not as much as the larger pixels will.

The downside of the ST-9 is the small overall image size (512x512).

If you use a reducer and can get really good guiding, the small-pixel cameras could be useful. But you will be working harder to achieve results, and if that is enjoyable to you, look more closely at the small pixel cameras.

I'm in the same boat. I will be imaging thru a C11 at F10 & F6.3 and also thru a 102ED refractor at F6.5 and also attempting thru a 80mm at F6.25. I had a ST7 which seemed to work out fine on the C11 but I want to upgrade tp a larger camera. I am also in a delemma of chooseing between a new ST2000xm or a used ST8E, I am use to the parellel port (slower downloads) with my old ST7, AND I have more time then money!! What do you guys think???? Thanks Tom
