Cryptic Katydids

I get a kick out of leaf-mimic katydids. Some even have "bites" out of their "leaves," and mildew spots. All fashioned by natural selection and trial and error. The "errors" get eaten. This one was photographed in the Peruvian Amazon.

Here is a very similar katydid, photographed in northern Borneo (Sarawak, Malaysia).

Here's another Peruvian katydid, this one not so cryptic as it is threatening. It is very spikey, and it bites! A lizard would think twice about this one as a mouthful... ouch.
