Horsetails

A close-up of some back-lit Horsetails, taken at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. These are very ancient plants. When I lived in Kentucky, I found 300 million year-old fossils of horsetails, but from a much larger form that grew 30 feet tall.
Taken with a Nikkor 18-135 zoom. (A nice lens except for being prone to barrel distortion)

That plant and the Resurrection plant, Selaginella lepidophylla, are the two most ancient vascular plants in existence. Nice shot.
