I just returned from Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore on Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The park hugs the southern shore of Lake Superior, encompassing cliffs 200 feet high as well as 300 ft sand dunes. The skies were amazing; deep blue in the daytime, with star-studded performances at night.

Lake Superior (evening). Note the granite cobbles & pebbles on the shore. One can spend hours sifting through gorgeous granites and amazing agates.

Beautiful pictures. That is an area I need to revisit. I haven't been up there for 15 years.

Thanks for the beautiful photos and the painting, John.

I haven't been up there in 30 years, but Lake Superior has a look. The rocks, the black, crisp horizon, the clear air. Anyone that has been there can recognize it. I grew up near Lake Michigan, and have seen all five Great Lakes, and none of the others look like Superior.

You guys from California ought to see it.
