Veil in Narrowband color

I was able to get some OIII and SIII exposures last week. The composite color image has H-a mapped to red, OIII mapped to blue and SII used in the green channel. I'm not fully happy with this image, and will be working more with the data. I will need more OIII and SII data to lower the noise.

I did get some more narrow band data (not as much as I would have liked) but it did fill in some of the fainter areas and reduced the background noise. Not a dramatic improvement unfortunately.

I also shot the Veil the other day using my 175EDF astrograph, but only in H-a and OII. The green channel is derived via a combination of H-a and OIII. There is no SII since I wanted to concentrate on getting a high resolution image.

I used the QSI 683 camera, the refractor had the field flattener so was operating at F8.3, 1453mm focal length. Image scale is .77 arc sec per pixel. Seeing varied, but at times was down around 1.3 arc sec FWHM. There are only 4 x 15 minute exposures in this set, so not very deep. Tonight I am gathering more data. Hopefully I can get much more since this is an ideal combination. The 683 has extremely low noise compared to my STL camera, so the longer F-ratio really is not a hindrance.

This first is a 2 panel mosaic (could not fit it all in one shot). Size has been reduced radically, as you will see on the full size crops.
