Greetings from the UK,

I am considering my options for purchasing a new scope for later in the year, with my 'short list' ranging from Orion's XT-12 Dob through to a wide range of Meade and Celestron GOTO scopes. One of which really interests me is the Celestron C-9.25SGT Schmidt-Cass.

My query is whether this scope will accept a Televue 2" Everbrite Star Diagnol, that will allow me to use their 2" eyepieces, such as the 31mm Type 5 Nagler and the 55mm Plossl.

The main UK dealer, seemed to infer that the C-9.25SGT would not accept a 2" Everbrite Star Diagnol. If someone could clarify this, I'd be most grateful, as it will definately have an impact on what I eventually buy.

Many thanks,

Malcolm

Malcom,

Most SCT's will accept any brand of 2" diagonal. This is accomplished by removing the 1.25" visual back and replacing it with a 2" visual back. I use the one made by Astro-Physics because it has a brass compression ring that tightens all the way around the EP instead of just at one or two points. This visual back also includes a 1.25" adaptor for 1.25" EP's. Some 2" visual backs do not include this adaptor or charge extra for it.

Malcolm,

You will probably want to replace the stock 1.25" visual back and prism diagonal that come with the C-9.25, as I did for my NX-11GPS. All you need to attach the TV diagonal is the 2" visual back from Celestron, which screws right on the back of the OTA. Instead of the Celestron visual back, I use the Virtual View and like it very much. It is a rotating 2" visual back that will screw on to the OTA. Allows you to turn the eyepiece from side to side for viewing convenience. It is available from Starizona. The TV Everbright 2" is a wonderful diagonal. Current model has brass compression ring rather than set screw. When I was considering buying these accessories I was concerned about them fitting. They fit perfectly and go on and off in seconds. Optical engineer license not required.
