I noticed on the Meade website that these are still shown, along with the 80mm. But it's my understanding that the 127mm is not going to be made. I'm sure this decision occurred some time back and I just missed it. But what was the problem? It looked like a pretty good buy.

They never said for sure why it was discontinued, but costs or perhaps other production problems were the cause.

I would assume (and you know what they say about ASSume)...that this is yet another result of Meade's current financial difficulties and the changes that are taking place over there.

apparently, there`s a version of this scope successfully in production in the UK, Japan, etc.

called the Astronomica ED 127 from Maxvision, it`s stated to use FPL51 instead of the Hoya equivalent, FDD1, which Meade was going to use...seems to have had a few good reviews so far too over there...this one may be a bit hard to swallow,

but it`s the only one i`ve found...so far...at least, someone put it in some sort of proper perspective toward the end of that thread, tho.

however, this may be why it`s still listed on the Meade site...it`ll be interesting to see if Meade still somehow brings it`s version to the market...just at a higher price?...and, if they don`t, if someone else does. smile 8)
