Astronomers Find the Most Stable Optical Clock in the Heavens

A 400 million-year-old white dwarf located in Leo Minor has been found to generate pulses of light that are so regular that it loses only one second in 8.9 million years. The pulses of this star are more accurate than the even the ticks of an atomic clock, making this white dwarf the most precise chronometer known in the heavens.

Must have been a lot of data over twenty years to measure a one second variation every 8.9 million years! And with a 215 second pulse cycle, I hope they were using an accurate "stopwatch" to measure such a minuscule difference over 20 years.....<br>
