Father's Day
Remembering Dad on Fathers Day
By David Kiefner - 6/20/2004

Father's day has always been a special day for me. You see I'm 56 years old and, luckily, at almost 80, Dad is still with us and, yes, he has the usual pesky aches and pains of getting a little older but rarely complains.

Having children is one thing but being a true father is something else. I remember my Dad taking off work to come to my little league games, those many fishing trips we had together, always having time to drive us to scouts and participating in summer camp. Always in the bleachers cheering me on in wrestling. Dad was always interested in what I was doing, even buying my first telescope. And yes, he pushed me when he had to. Mom and Dad created a household for my sister and I that was loving and caring and showed that to each other. Asked what he wanted for his son and daughter he once said, "I'd like them to grow up and be nice thoughtful people." That was most important to him. Dad, you were and still are what defines a wonderful father. Thank you for all the wonderful memories.

Happy Fathers Day, Dave
