Atlas Eq-g Polar alignment scope problem

I just got an Atlas Eq-g mount with the Orion 11"SCT. When I look through the polar axis finder scope I am unable to see any Polaris, or any other stars due to the illuminator being so bright. Short of taking the mount apart(shudder), is there any way to tone down the intensity of the light.
Thanks in advance,

Hey, Joe...
I have a 3-yr old Atlas, and on the side of the mount near the power-in port and the port for the hand controller, there is a small (I mean really small) knob sticking out that is a dimmer for the illuminator in the scope. If you don't find it, let me know & I'll send a photo.

Hi Joe; I have an EQ-G there is no way with out opening the face plate. I just flip the switch on and off. after the year is up i'm going to pull it apart and put a pot in it to be able to lower the brightness.

Joe,

You might try what I do with my non-illuminated polar scope, I take a lo-light red flashlight and point it down the front, it's slightly ackward but gives me just enough light to see what I need to align the scope, plus by tilting the flashlight I can "adjust" the intensity.

I'm interested in hearing this because I plan to buy an EG6 mount for my 100mm Apo in a month or so.

Thanks for all the feedback. Someone at the local astronomy club said I could also paint the illuminator with red nail polish to cut down the intensity.
