I bought this refractor sunday. Will put together wednesday (two days from now). I will be back to give reviews on Sunday. I physically went to a dealer in New York City and picked it up. Any eyepieces or filters reccommended for a 5 inch refractor. All these forum comments about meade being sued have me on edge.

Hello John,
I would not worry too much about Meade going under right now. Their series 4000 oculars are fine for the refractor you mentioned or any other scope for that matter, but I would start with a few TeleVue plossls, they will be more consistent, have better resale value when you want to sell them and TeleVue customer service and warranty are excellent. You may consider some UO Ortho’s, if you’re on a budget, they to are excellent. I prefer the UO over the Meade’s for planetary and lunar work.
Where did you buy your scope in New York city?

Congratulations! Don't be scared, be happy!
Meade is a big company who sell tons of scopes, so they are bound to be mocked by hard-core amateurs who wants to stand out in the crowd. Much in the same way that computer-nerds prefer Linux to Windows.
Okay, so I guess they're not Zambuto, but the Meade scopes i have looked through (ETX125 & 10"LX200) seemed to have very good optics.
Having said that, I must admit I feel a bit puzzled when the ads say that the 10" lxd55 is ideally suited for CCD imaging. Don't you need something like a G-11 for that??
I'm pretty much a beginner, so don't take me to seriously anyhow.
Again, I congratulate you!
