I'm looking to buy a low power, wide angle eyepiece for a 10" f/5 dob. I can't justify spending 500+ dollars for a Nagler right now and I was wondering if you guys had any sugguestions for me. I'd like it get something around 30mm. I was looking at the 31mm GTO Proxima but there's a warning about using it on fast scopes. Has anyone used it on a fast scope and what were the results. Thanks.

Are you looking for a 2" or 1.25"???

There are some new 2" Skywatcher eyepieces out now that are supposed to be good on dob's.. They are about 100.00 Canadian. They come in 28mm, 35mm and 42mm. They are supposed to compare with a konig.. For a low power eyepiece I don't think you can beat the price..

Has anyone else reviewed or tried these yet???

Sorry. I definately want a 2". IMHO it's not worth getting a 1.25" when your at that high of a focal length. Thanks,

How about snagging one of the previously-loved 27mm Panoptics being dumped for the latest Nagler bimbo? ;-)

Hi Rick.

Vixen makes a nice 2" 30mm eyepiece with a 60* apparent field (though it's sometimes mistakenly listed in ads/ on web as 50*) and long eye relief. It's a 6-element ep and did a nice job in my f/8 refractor, though I don't know how well it will work in your shorter f-ratio scope... But it might be worth considering. I bought mine for about $170 new through University Optics or you could presumably get one through the new Vixen North America company.

Cheers,
John

Ricky:

Call Gary Hand and ask him about the eyepiece for your scope. Since it's a Dob, would you be better off with wide eyepieces in the lower powers or the higher powers?

Just a thought.
