Fine Tuning My Eyepiece Linup

I’ve got a 12.5” f/5 Dob and my current line up seems to me to be just about complete. Here’s what I’ve got…

26mm Type 5 Nagler -- 61x (1.3 degree FOV)

13mm Type 6 Nagler -- 122x

9mm Type 6 Nagler – 176x

7mm Type 6 Nagler – 227x

5mm Type 6 Nagler – 317x

I’m debating over the Paracorr. I can see coma in the 26mm at about 80% out from center but then again I’m not so sure how much it bothers me. The Type 6 Naglers don’t seem to show any coma.

Anyway, what else could I add to this (or subtract) to fine tune it?

Thanks!

Dave

This is just a suggestion but if I was you I would sell the 26mm Nag and buy a 31mm Nag and a 20mm or 22mm Nag. I think you would be very happy with this setup, I know I am.

You need to add a 28mm, 21.5mm, 15mm, 12mm, 8mm to fill in the gaps. You have no RKE's. How can you observe without no RKE's?

Dave, if you like the 26mm Nagler, I wouldn't change anything, except perhaps if you want higher magnification sometimes. The 3.5mm and 2.5mm Nagler Type 6's are just like the 5mm.

I say "if you like the 26mm Nagler" because I myself couldn't justify keeping it since my skies aren't really dark enough for low magnification observing. I just use a 40mm Pentax XL as a "finder" eyepiece and jump straight down to a 14mm Radian. I'd buy a 13mm Nagler Type 6 instead, but I generally move so quickly down to the 7mm Nagler Type 6 on objects of all types that I can't justify it, or a Paracorr either, for that matter.
