I'm leaving for Greece next saturday with my travelscope, an ETX-105 UHTC, the corrector has way too much dust on it, should I clean it using a alcohol-distilled water mixture??
Thanks for any help.

Nico,

Check out the following link regarding cleaning the corrector, particularly the information from Clay Sherrod. Clay updated his cleaning formula due to the UHTC coatings. Just search for UHTC on the website below for this information.

This is a link to Mike Weasner's ETX site and it is an excellent source for most questions on the Meade ETX telescopes.

My final advice is to be very careful and follow Clay's instructions exactly. Personally, I would only clean the corrector lens as a last resort.

Nico,

I have a 125ETX with the UHTC coatings.

I would clean the corrector if it is really dusty. If there is just a little bit of dust, I would not bother. However, based on your description, it sounds like it is time to get busy.

My scope sees a good amount of use for both astronomy and for bird watching. I have cleaned the corrector and it is not hard. Take your time. Be patient. Be careful. Just follow Meade’s instructions from the owner’s manual or follow Dr. Clay’s instructions from the other post. Both have worked for me.

I think it would be a shame to have such a nice scope and have to look through a crusted up corrector. Finally, the glass sure looks great when it is clean!

Good luck and have a wonderful trip!
