M57 - LRGB

Hi,

Here is a LRGB image of M57 using a 180mm TMB at F9, ST-10XME, and Astronomik H-alpha, 03, and H-beta filters. The LRGB composite was combined using the same sigma clipped stack of 20 H-alpha image for both the L and R components. The G and B components are excluded min/max average stacks of 15 O3 and 15 H-beta images, respectively.

The L component was brightness stretched and sharpened very
aggressively compared to the R,G, and B components. Additional information about the equipment used to create the image and processing is available under the image.

Have a nice day.

That’s close to what I see visually at the eyepiece. Except I don’t see as much color, actually I only see a small hint of green. And I don’t often see the central star, maybe never in fact, although I’ve heard that some people do see it with equipment similar to mine. Oh, one other thing, I don’t see quite as much detail either, but now that I know what’s supposed to be there, I’m sure I’ll see it from now on, in my minds eye at least.

Seriously Mike, that’s a great picture. Send it to Hal; it should be an “Image of the Day” someday.
