Hello,

A simple question: for planetary visual observations is the SC 10" best that the 6" newtonian reflector, there is very muchdifference in the image?

Thanks,

Too many unstated variables. If you're in Barbados so that the SCT is in thermal equilibrium and you have good seeing and the SCT is well collimated, it will spank the 6" Newt, assuming equal optical quality (but that's a big assumption!); more so on high contrast detail and less so on (larger) low contrast detail because of the larger central obstruction.

However, in some climates it's really hard to make an SCT perform well unless you have something like a Lymax cooler. A 6" Newt cools down easily, especially if it has a fan.

I am not sure about a 10" SCT but I can say that I prefer the views in my 6" f/8 reflector over my 8" SCT for planetary use.

Paulo, too many variables involved here, but IMHO, a 10" SCT would dance all around a 6" reflector for planetary use... unless the Seeing is so crappy that the 10" cannot be used to its full capabilities.

Here in South Florida, where we normally enjoy of good/great seeing, there would be no competition, as the 10" "much longer" focal length and aperture would allow you to have a much larger image scale (magnification) and see more detail...
