Stargazing weather forecast? Is there such a thing

I feel like all I ever do here is confirm my ignorance to you all, but here goes:

I know there's heavens-above.com, and I thought that had some kind of stargazing forecast on it, but hell if I can find it. Is there somewhere I can look up to find out if there will be cloud coverage in my area? I'm not finding anything. I can get anyone to tell me what the weather is like during the day (I can also look out the window), but I've noticed sometimes if it's cloudy during the day, the night can be totally clear - and the opposite has occurred as well.

Any help and direction would be appreciated!

Besitos!

Hi Sarah,

Try www.cleardarksky.com and then find a site near you. This is still an imperfect science but I have found this free service to be pretty good.

Good Luck,

Don

:C Weather forecasting is like Astrology with numbers!

Huh. I'd never heard that. But I can think of at least one instance (living in Oregon), where there was a full moon, and clouds galore. So I think that might be a wives tale (?)

I use the Clear Sky Clock and Intellicast as my primary tools for weather forecasting, just as several folks have already recommended.

I also like to check a jet stream map to help me get an estimate of the seeing conditions. An example of such a map can be found at http://www.wunderground.com/US/Region/US/JetStream.html

Try Intellicast - under activities in the upper right corner, pick "STARGAZE" and enter your ZIP code.

The site is www.intellicast.com
