Swiffer to clean optics

Hello All,

As anyone used a 'Swiffer Duster' to clean optics? I have a 14" LX200 which gets dusty here in the desert. A Swiffer Duster does seem suitable but wondering if there are any issues with them.

All input apprechiated.

Some dust can be vacuumed off with a vacuum cleaner. I use a crevice cleaning tool and never touch the mirror, just run it above the mirror. But, some dust sticks so tightly that the vacuum will not lift it. The vacuum does take off a bit though, especially the hard sand particles and lint.
You can use a feather duster, but you stand the chance of scratches any time you brush a mirror with dirt on it.

Ask Meade too. Due to the chemicals and abrassion factors.

Hi Paul,

I live out in the desert as well. I found a soft brush per Dr. Clay's ASO cleaning method to be ideal. Check out this link:

http://www.arksky.org/asoclean.htm

Under the "Preparation to Cleaning" section, he goes into detail about what the ideal brush is for cleaning off dust. I think Oceanside Photo & Telescope also sells a kit which includes a brush that fits this criteria.

Cheers,
Jason

I had similar thought and tried a Swiffer on the bathroom
mirror first. It left some horrible greasy residue.
Won't work.
