I have thought about this a lot today. I think that I did feel a little bit of a personal jab with the comments about my methodology and lack of depth. Perhaps it was deserved, perhaps it was only another's opinion?

We are all sensitive at times to criticism, that is the nature of us all. Some tend to overlook the obvious and pursue the shadows that lie between the lines. More important is what is meant within the lines. It is not wrong to look for fault, but if fault is found it must be enlightened with fact, not just vague statements that do not bring enlightenment, but rather confusion. Anyone can be mistaken in their assumptions and to correct them should be a courtesy.

I am quite willing to admit that I do not know all their is to know about optics and related subjects. I have never made and eyepiece or ground a mirror. I have read books and listened to people and bought and sold equipment in an attempt to gain some perspective on out hobby. I bow to those who have the ability to do what I can not and I respect their knowledge. If I am ignorant in some ways it is not because I have not tried to learn, it is because it takes many years to absorb all that is available.

Please accept my apologies for being thin skinned and perhaps a little vain. My intentions were honorable and meant to add to the quality of the forum. In some ways I perhaps induced a little friction instead of harmony. I may have given opinions that others took exception to and felt they needed to reply to make their thoughts known, which I took in a way that they did not intend?

I would love to see others come forward and give their reports to enrich this forum and spread knowledge openly and equally. This is the Eyepiece Forum, it is an Open Forum and very much an Equal Forum. Post your views, make your thoughts known, give your information, but most of all, respect each other's opinions so that no one feels insecure about posting theirs.

Floyd,
I don't blame you for being miffed about the nit pickers here in this forum and elsewhere in the forums. I'm mostly a lurker and only add comments when I can help, mostly in the beginners forum. While I read most of the forums that interest me I really feel that there are some who would argue a point just for the sake of argument or one upmanship. I fell sorry for these folks and can just say that maybe they should get out and observe more and spend less time tearing apart someones opinions.

Indirectly you've helped me pare down my EPs to only five that I use all the time, and I have sold or traded the rest. Without the advice and help from you and others here I'd probably have spent a lot more money than I did, and that's very valuable to me.

Thanks,

Floyd don't worry I will do some tests and take the heat off of you. From what I have read some of my observations may go over like a lead ballon.

Clear skies,
Richard

Floyd,

What I am about to say is not scientific, but based on my opinion. I went through the first 27 posts (not including any of yours, but including posts from the same individual). 18 complemented your test, 5 seemed to be thought provoking, 2 were off topic, and 2 were negative.

I appreciated what you did, and so did the vast majority of folks. Even those who posted what I considered negative made valid points. I guess where I am going with this is with a 72% approval rating, 8% disapproval, and 20% undecided, you have numbers any good politician would love!

Keep up the reviews.

Floyd:

I am glad you have considered this a bit more and come to a different conclusion. I think we all appreciated your effort of making the test and at the same appreciated some thoughts and comments on your test. As the owner of several Newtonians similar to yours, your test is very relevent to me.

I think everyone had good intentions with their comments. In a technical/scientific forum, one does want/need to open be to comment/suggestions and to learn from those comments. That is how science and technology progress.

So, I honor you not only for taking the time to test these eyepieces but for taking the time to consider your feelings and look at yourself and to do so in front of the group.... I think that takes some real courage.

Well done on all counts,

Jon

Floyd, my friend, 99% of the readers here appreciate your hard work and dedication...

Let's see that 1% of complainers DO something constructive and post some reports, just like the one you did, instead of nitpicking and criticizing somebody else's work for a change huh? (that's pretty easy to do..., and pretty LOW by my standards...)

Sorry, but it pisses me off to see those "trolls" around here... :C

Hi Floyd,

I think you did a great job on the review, and I applaud your efforts here. The only way people like me, and others, who simply can't buy and try a whole lot of eyepieces can get a feeling for what we might like is to read reviews.

I will continue to support these forums, and do my best to provide accurate, useful, and hopefully unbiased reviews of the products I own.

And if anyone wants to send me something to review, I will be happy to do that as well. 8)

Sincerely,
Timm Bottoni

Please, please don't stop posting your reviews. I have been updating my set of eyepieces the last six months or so and I have found your reviews and comments so helpful. Every eyepiece I have bought based on your comments, I have been sooo happy with. I really enjoy reading what you have to say. You put alot of time and effort into what you do.

Keep up the good work!!! others could learn from you.
