I have an old ITE tripod whose head leaked very thick fluid all over the place- it can be scraped off, but the residue seems to be a bit refractory to cleaning with soap and water. What is this chemically, and what will take it off clean and not leave anything behind? Thanks. Jess Tauber
What is this goop?

[COLOR="Purple"]Not sure but I think some fluid heads have a silicone based "goop" in them. Don't get that stuff, whatever it is, on your optics!
I don't know what to use to clean it with but I'd try something like acetone...but the acetone will mess up any paint it gets on...so be careful if you try that.
