What is a Meade DS 16 worth these days?

Back in college I used a Meade DS 10 for my first telescope. It is long gone and there is a guy selling a DS 16 locally, what is a fair market price for a bare bones DS 16 in fair shape?

And... are the drives on the DS 16s better than the ones on the DS 10?

Thanks!

No, they are no better. In fact, they usually are worse, since the mount/drive was at its limit with the 16.

How much? That is always hard to say, since, as I am wont to say, "An old scope is worth exactly what you can convince someone to pay for it."

Condition figures into it...and most are not going to be in very good condition. OK condition? Everything works? Mirror in good shape? 500 - 600 tops.

Well, if it has a decent mirror $700-800 wouldn't be a bad price. As far as the drives go, they are much heavier duty than the DS-10 drives and work just dandy for visual use. My old DS-16 actually had a manageable PE and could do AP with it. Although some had a pretty wild PE. 8O

The main thing, how strong is your back... Do you really want to mess around with a scope that big and heavy? Do you have a good ladder?
