Hi guys!
I finished my 8" mirror with 1/12 lambda surface error and am about to coat it. smile
On the coating company web page I saw an option to coat a mirror with 'Beral':

"Beral™ is a hard metalic coating for front surface mirrors. Its reflective properties are quite similar to those of Aluminum. The average reflectance is 91% in the visible spectrum. Beral™ is much harder than pure Aluminum and can be easily cleaned and maintained. Beral™ was developed exclusively by H. L. Clausing Inc. for use on astronomical telescope mirrors. "

Have you ever heard about it?

Marcin,

Clausing has been offering Beral coatings for years. I have had mirrors coated with this material over the years. Although it may be harder than aluminum in its raw state, Beral is not overcoated as aluminum coatings are. Beral is delicate compared to overcoated aluminum, in as much as when you clean it, the slightest amount of rubbing will cause sleeks. Overcoated aluminum can be cleaned far easier with out causing any damage. As with any coating, caution must be taken when cleaning and cleaning done only when absolutely necessary.

Hi

I have had all my mirrors coated with it and cleans great. I keep my mirrors inside in the house so I don't know about storage in a garage. My first mirror is 3 yrs old as good as the day I had it coated. Well and the price umm the other mirror makers are lets say much higher. Also if you want to come back later and refigure as your mirror making skills get even better you don't have a ton of money in the coating. That is the great thing about making your own . Don't take my word look at the picture.
