This sounds silly but seems like a good idea. Using an eye patch so you don't have to squint one eye for long viewing sessions? Anyone use one. *goes to laugh in a corner*

Arrgh, Arrrgh, aye, aye, captain! 8)
Actually, in all seriousness, I've always thought about getting me one, but never got it.... one of these days I must... it makes sense.

I tried an eyepatch but ran into a few unexpected snags.

I need glasses when using the Telrad (I'm nearsighted).

Turns out I couldn't wear the eyepatch and glasses at the same time, so the logistics got crazy. Would have to put on the eyepatch only after finding the object. A ski cap would also be a complication, having to take off the ski cap before putting on the eyepatch, each time I found a new object.

Another surprise was that with the eyepatch, my balance and visual acuity one-eyed was poor. A bit scary climbing a short ladder or going down the ladder to get a new eyepiece.

It would be OK once settled in for a long view.

But with those complications, I have just gone back to squinting.

Obviously, others' experiences may vary by quite a bit. With the very low cost of the eyepatches, it is worth a try. Maybe I'll give it another try.

Casey, I use one all the time for viewing in mono-mode, and have for years. It greatly reduces eyestrain and allows you to concentrate on your target. They are so cheap at the drug store, in fact, I have about a half-dozen in various cases and places so I can find another one if I misplace it. You might say I'm eyepatch addicted. smile I put one on over my observing eye while I am setting up and it gives me a head start on dark adaptation.

Aren't Pirates fashionable now, anyway? Johnny Depp and all.

I use one all the time. The totally free alternative is simply placing a hand over the non-viewing eye.

The whole thread makes me wonder if using one here at home would counteract my coffee runs. Put it over the nonviewing eye outside and sliding it over when I run in to get coffee, preserving more of my night vision in the proccess.
