Dust Prevention

I was thinking about getting a Meade Skylight Filter to prevent further dust from entering my 10” LX200 and was wondering if this is a good solution. From my understanding, the filter fits between the rear cell and the visual back. Any comments and / or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Paul smile

Paul:
Anything you can do to keep the optics clear are a good thing. Make sure you keep your scope covered when not in use.

I in my opinion, any glass you put in the optical path adds up to degrade the image.
Unless you have some reason to to keep the rear opening open, I wouldn't bother.

Paul,
Just keep the diagonal in place and eyepiece holder plugged or capped when the scope is not in use. You are adding more glass to the optical train and reducing the light through-put of your scope. Cover it up when it's not in use and keep anything that may "communicate" with the inside environment- like the barrel surfaces of your eps, filters and diagonal- clean, so you won't be dragging contaminants into your OTA. Keep the OTA horizontal or pointed slightly downward to insure that anything freely circulating inside won't settle on the mirror or corrector's surfaces.

Thanks for all the great advice. It never occurred to me that using a skylight filter would cut light transmission enough to impact viewing. Thanks again, Paul smile
