Intersted in trying to take pictures of the universe using my dob (xt6 classic) and a Nikon D70 camera (digital). I've heard of people taking off they're eyepieces and shooting a pictures directly into the telescope. Is this plausible? I'm guessing if it is at all i'm gonna need a tripod or something to hold the camera. Can anyone shed some light on this?

-thanks

Casey, it sure is possible!
This is called Prime Focus imaging, and you can do it.

You'll end up removing your camera lense, and using a T-Adapter (for a Nikon) and an adapter tube. Then this will go into your scope focuser (without any eyepieces). VOILA! 8)

The only issue I see is that your scope is a PUSH-TO scope, and your imaging will be limited (due to lack of tracking)

What is it that you plan on imaging? depending on that, you might want to go another route...

Let me know,

You can do it, I have taken pics of the moon that way. It is fun, just do not get to upset as long as you realize the limitations of the set up you will have fun with it.
