How to rate a seller

Hello,
I have posted 2 classified. I am still unrated because the buyer does not know where to rate the purchase. could you please advice? this is very frustrating. It should be so straight forward.

In my account top right I can find unused ratings, but the person that purchased my equipment is not listed, only the more recent one, which is still in progress.

When the buyer responded to your ad did you receive an email to the email you have on file here or did they send you a PM via the site?

Both, because  the emails from the Astromart site only intermittently were received. Very frustrating. So we communicated by sending emails both directly through our personal email, as well as through the AstroMart site.

Just be aware if the buyer does not respond directly via the button on the ad then the flag doesnt get set for both of you to have the opportunity to give feedback. If that is what happened and you have not marked the ad as sold yet then he should be able to respond via the ad still.....If you have marked it as sold you may be able to unmark it as sold (I dont recall if that is still an option) then he can respond via the ad and the flags will get set that allow feedback. Once he has done that then you can mark it sold again.

Going forward it is a good idea never to mark an item as sold until the entire process is complete including the appropriate feedbacks etc......

If someone sends you a PM about an item, tell them they have to respond via the button on the ad before moving ahead with the transaction so that the system creates the feedback options.

I am not able to mark as unsold. It seems to me this is absolutely backwards. Why shouldn't a buyer (or seller) be able to rate a transaction, if it was initiated from an AstroMart classified? This is especially troubling when your email system is not consistent, as I have been experienced not just by me, but by others. I think you are making this unnecessarily cumbersome. I will think again about going with you next time.

99% of the time the issue with emails lies with either your or the buyers email provider (ISP) flagging the emails generated from astromart as spam because of the repetitive nature of the email notifications. That is not something Astromart has any control over.

It works fine for me and problems has been rare over the years..... Here is how it is supposed to work

1. You post an ad
2. Buyer responds via the ad
3a. System sets the transaction rating flags for you and the buyer
3b. System sends you an email notifying you of the inquiry
4. You reply to it and it goes directly to the buyers email
5. From that point on all communication is direct via email outside of AM so you and the buyer have your own record of all communications in case there is a problem.

It is simple and works well for most people 99% of the time and usually about the only glitch that happens is as stated above when an ISP flags an email or emails as spam. This is something you should be able to check for by looking in your spam folder although there have been 1 or 2 ISP's who have filtered them out without sending you a copy to your spam folder, as I recall hotmail was one of the worst for this at one time......

About the only recommendation I have for you is check your spam folder for the missing emails..... Pretty much everything astro related I own was purchased via this site and its quite a lot, I have also sold a fair bit as well....all with pretty much no issues for around 15 years. As for your remarks regarding future activities, I am a member just like you so that is entirely up to you smile

Thank you. Yes, I do check my spam email every time. Still, what is clear is that some of my replies from the Astromart site never reach the buyer and vice versa. My suspicion is that there is a problem with a certain combination of browsers, email companies, etc, which I cannot identify at the moment. I have done several tests to no avail. I am glad the site works for you, and I am disappointed it does not work for me. I would have assumed that paying the fee implied that certain things, such as the ability to rate and being rated would be straightforward. As it is, I remain unrated, despite 2 very successful transactions, which is to detriment.

In a similar note, in December I purchased a telescope from Matsumoto Company.   I was unable to rate him and he is a very fine and reputable seller.  We had correspondence on the site but no unused rating came up on my account. 

Can i be granted a one time seller rating opportunity after this sale.   Somehow the system did not work for me or Koji and I would love the opportunity to supply a new rating for him after an absence on AM.   Tom Fischer, INDY
