Last night's Ganymede Transit

Last night I observed part of the Ganymede transit. The seeing here was fair to poor but I could clearly see the large dark spot go across. Did anyone else see it? Any drawings or photos? It always amazes me how fast Jupiter rotates!

Sorry Bill,
I did not get a chance to look last night. Wish I had.

I was able to catch some nice video of the event. Will take me a while to prepare the color images - here is a quick look through the red filter twenty minutes or so before ingress. I'll post a copy of the final color image when finished.

cheers -
Alan

I caught it. Didn't know what is was at first. Checked Guide and quickly found out. It was a great sight from here. It appeared dark and round but overall not as stark as a shadow transit, probably because it's smaller. As it neared and exited the limb, it became a luminescent round orb.

It was fun to watch and I had some great views of Jupiter to boot.

Take care,
john

Like some others I did not know in advance. I something faint in my 6" refractor (average seeing) in the southern zone. At fist I though it was just a floater but I kept seeing it. I check a higher and lower powers and it was always there slowly making its way across the planet. Of course I saw early on that one moon was missing and assumed it was out of view behind the planet.
