Pink Floyd - Pulse DVD

Pink Floyd concert from 1995 - released long ago on VHS, but reworked and re-released on DVD in late 2006. David Gilmour said that it took quite a while to re-format the video for larger screens and to work out some of the technical details resulting from the fact that it was originally shot on videotape, not film (a point that Gilmour admits was a mistake in hindsight).

Nonetheless, it's a great show - the sound is fantastic, although the video is occasionally a little less than optimal. Two DVD's - the second DVD alone is worth the price as it contains a complete run through of Dark Side of the Moon.

The remaining members of the band (Gilmour, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright) are pretty subdued on stage (as is typically the case for them) but the lighting, video, and other effects are great... as you'd expect for a Floyd concert. The only part of the performance that I didn't much care for was that when they show Mason close up he almost looks as though he's just faking it (there is another drummer on stage, too, which doesn't help - but then again, there are other guitarists and keyboard players and obviously Roger Waters is not there on bass, but Mason's performance just looks a bit "unnatural". Perhaps that's because I want to see him be more like Neil Peart from Rush who almost always looks very focused and determined but has fun with his playing, too.)

Highly recommended, despite the occasional (minor) video quality issues and my personal misgivings about Nick Mason's performance. Gilmour is the man!

Yeah Scott,I absolutely love Pink Floyd.I usually listen to them while I view.I use to play their songs on guitar.I would try to play the entire album of another brick in the wall.It takes a completely different state of mind to play a lot of their music, and I don't mean what some folks think I mean, but I used to mean it that way when I was in high school.I graduated in 1977 so that should give you an idea of the era I grew up in.But Pink Floyd is still just as good today as they were then.I've got to get me the Pulse DVD,everyone that has it really likes it.I hope I did'nt change your posting too much,I just like Pink Floyd and did'nt think anyone on astromart liked them as much as I do.Sincerely,Darrell

Holy Crapola! I had this Forum "Hidden" for some odd reason, and had not seen it in months! 8O

Glad I found it, once again!

My 3 favorite bands (even though I like MANY more) are RUSH, PINK FLOYD and YES...

The PULSE DVD is by far one of my favorite ones... what an amazing performance, and the music/effects are superb, as expected from PF of course!

Yes, there are some minor details that could be better, but all in all, a must have DVD! 8)
