I'm doing a presentation for a class and looking for references to scientific contributions made by amateur astronomers. Any suggestions?
Thanks,

Sweet the coming on
Of grateful evening mild; then silent night
With this her solemn bird and this fair moon,
And these the gems of heaven, her starry train.

In the Astronomy world, I'd start with Sir Patrick Moore for his moon maps and Caldwell catalog and David H. Levy for all of his comet discoveries.

I have several telescopes, but none are semi-APO, APO, or in anyway valuable.
