Backing out of deals

People back out of deals too often. I think I'm going to hang up AstroMart and go back to buying and selling on eBay. AstroMart is going downhill fast. Does anyone have any opinions on this?

Yes, I have the following opinion:
You're mistaken.

Downhill fast? Hardly.

I'm sorry you've had bad luck. All I can say is "hang in there." That's hardly great advice, but it's all I have. I've never had a bad deal (or even a semi-fishy one), so I can't quite relate.

EBay is a different animal (auctions vs. classifieds). Many people prefer it. Many others prefer Astromart. I enjoy both. Of course, I've not yet *sold* any goods through either of them. When I do, I'll do it here.

Best wishes and luck.

I've had the complete opposite experience here, except once, when the guy said the item was mine then decided to sell it to his neighbor so he wouldn't have to ship.

That's what it's really about: making sure you know the difference between someone who's 'definite' and not just 'interested.' I've never had a problem as a buyer because I make sure the seller understands. That's why I fumed in this one case, because there was no ambiguity.

As a seller, I much prefer Astromart: none of this waiting for a week and ending up with a (0)-and-sunglasses guy who didn't read the payment terms for a winner. Everyone I've dealt with here at least knows their astro equipment, and everything I put up sold within a day.

(The most impressive was when I listed a 22mm Panoptic. Five minutes later, the phone rang!)

In sum, the pros outweigh the cons, IMO.

Michael,
I too have not had a problem buying or selling on Astromart. I prefer to sell to regestered Astromart users. This way I can check the feedback from others regarding previous transactions. I always assume that there is a jerk in any group and he/she will be identified sooner or later for what they are.
Best of luck,
Barry

Michael, I never had a problem dealing with people in Astromart... so far all has been great, people have been very responsive and all deals went through fine...

I personally had to back out of a deal once, well, not really backing out, but had a personal problem and asked the seller if he could wait a week for me... he took it the wrong way and decided to put the item back on sale... (needless to say, I bought a similar (better) item a week later...)

I really like Astromart... it's got a good bunch of people and we all share our love for Astronomy...

Clear skies, and good luck on your future deals!

So far I have spent $645 and sold $375(maybe $395) and I still don't have a rating. Tried to rate the ones I bought from a big PLUS but it never seems to work. Maybe it's better Huh?......You are right about "hanging out a little" when you feel a moral commitment exists for someone. I have always set a time limit that they are aware of, to confirm our transaction. I expect the same. I tell them I will email EXACTLY the day & time when money is posted when I commit verbally to a purchase. Same thing on e-Bay. That way they know by the e-Mail, whether I talk, whether I forget, or whether I do. -It IS difficult to be Polite, Sensitive, and Firm at the same time. :-) -Larry
