Mexican Coca Colas better?

Recently, I was browsing through the Mexican food section of our local Super 1 and I noticed these Coca Colas bottled in Mexico, in a couple of sizes(approx. 12 and 16 ounces). A stick-on label mentioned they were made with cane sugar. I believe the US cokes are made with fructose or sucrose. I bought one and it "seemed" to remind me of the way Cokes used to taste. The bottles were also "Retornable", at least that was printed on the bottle. I've not checked with Super 1 to see if they are.

Can anyone verify that they taste better or perhaps it was just my imagination, since they were from exotic Mexico?

I haven't tried them yet, but how about a side by side comparison? Like a taste challenge, with your eyes closed/covered? 8)

Supposedly, around the Jewish holiday of Passover, Coca-Cola sells kosher versions made with cane sugar. Yellow caps distinguish the difference.

Entirely true. US Coca-cola is mostly formulated with corn syrup (plus various additives to cover the nasty corn syrup taste) whereas elsewhere it is generally made with cane sugar (sucrose). In most of the world, cane sugar is about the same price as corn syrup but in the USA the cane sugar is much more expensive because of agricultural tariffs / subsidies.

I used to work at Domino Sugar in Brooklyn and every year we would go crazy for a few weeks before passover, because Coke would switch to cane sugar temporarily in order to produce kosher-for-passover Coke. There is some debate about it but apparently most rabbis agree that corn-based products are not kosher during passover. I tried them side-by-side and the difference is noticeable, the cane sugar product has a bit cleaner taste.

Not only are the Mexican Cokes better tasting, but Coke in the Middle-East is better tasting as well! On a recent trip to Israel, I noticed the Cokes labeled with Arabic script were made with cane sugar, and had a better feel for carbonation also.

I haven't liked the taste of Coke, since the New Coke fiasco. High fructose corn syrup not only tastes bad, IMO, and is nearly omnipresent in today's processed foods, it presents a whole set of possible health issues.

First they took the narcotic out, then the sugar, now the caffeine. sad

I have an old cola bottle that lists as an ingredient "coca leaves (de-cocaineized)."

I've thought so too, but always figgered it was the water.
