Best President Since WWII BEGAN

The seeds that brought down the Soviet Union were laid down decades before Ronnie Reagan came to power I remeber reading predictions by Socialogists and historians that the Soviet Union would not see the year 2005 that was in 1973 when I really started paying attention to what sustains an empire like the Soviets. Now the USA is teetering on the dawn of Empire and it will fall too if we allow special interests and big business along with the Releigous wrong to continue dictating what America should be about. At the present it is the Republican Party that is the biggest threat to our democracy look at the people who are leading it. The Republican party only represents the corporations and to hell with the workers and there rights. It was Enron who put George Bush into office. Think again if you believe that the power brokers in this country have very little to say. They are the puppet masters in this USA. Give these people time in about another 20 years or so if the American people don't wake up democracy will die. Then the American people will be prisoners of the special interests and the corporations and free speech will be a thing of the past.

My take on who was the best President since the end of WWII was JFK he was a president that showed the American people that we could become more than we were then and was a source of inspiration for the country. After Jack was murdered in Dallas the whole country seemed to go to hell in a hand basket. There has never been a president since that had the inspiration that JFK conveyed to the American people.

BTW for those who not around in the sixties Ronnie Reagan was never considered a serious contender for the white house. People thought of him as a joke. Oh well that is Californa if you know what I mean. People back then would have thought you nuts to mention that Reagan would be considered one of our greatest presidents.

No two would be FDR who saved the country from the excess of the rich and the JFK who gave us inspiration.

The worst president in my mind was Nixon and if Nixon had won in 1960 I firmly believe non of us would be alive today. I don't beleive the Russians would have backed down during the Cuban missle crises after all they did have the upperhand in 1962 we only had the illusion it was not until the Titan II and the Minuteman missle system in the late sixties that allowed the US to have parity with the soviets.

I agree... except I voted for Truman. He was thrown into office with little preparation after Roosevelt died and was forced to make crucial decisions such as dropping the atomic bombs and later firing MacArthur. He handled his term without scandal and I think he and Jimmy Carter were among the most forthright and honest presidents we've had. I think that should count for something.

As to the Republicans, Big Business and Big Religion - you're preaching to the choir (pun intended) on that one, Dwight. I couldn't agree more. This country is in big trouble when we can elect an ultra-rightwing puppet boy idiot like Bush Jr. and have such large numbers of blue collar Americans hang on his every babbling word as if he were a cult leader, not President. (...the very people that are nothing but fodder to him and his piggish, money-grubbing cronies!). We'd better wake up before it's too late.

I allude to what Thurgood Marshall once said - That night never comes all at once. There's twilight during which at first you don't notice anything's different, only to find yourself surrounded by darkness.

I'm sure there's some of you out there who think this missive is dire, unrealistic and absurd. I'm sure that a lot of Germans in 1932 thought that those debunking Herr Hitler and his party were unrealistic and silly, too. And then they made him chancellor...

History can and does repeat itself, and anyone who thinks it couldn't happen to us some day at the rate we're going is foolings themselves. We're not immune just because we're Americans.

I agree with the twenty years or so, it will just be allot shorter time line with the Clintons, Gores and Kerry’s and maybe we could throw in a Daschle or two. :-)

You seriously don’t think either side would do a much better job! If it’s the republicans and the fall of our great democracy, then you can be sure the democrats will get us their just as fast.

Come on guys, I think most of us in the middle, not the radical left and right and the partisan brain washed believe that both candidates and parties mean well for the country and the parties have much more in common than their differences, so if those who truly believe we will fall in twenty years should start packing some stuff away because it’s going to happen regardless of your choice of political party.

We can always read the newspapers to wallow in all the bad and there will always be bad, but considering the circumstances there is allot of good changes that will a cure from where we are now.

Ya know when the Clintons had the white house there was allot of hootin and hollerin just like there is now, but mostly all that was from the far left and right. The rest said let them do there job.
