There have been several truely excellent images of this object (one of my favorites) recently - this is not in their class. That being said - this is my most recent attempt at the Cocoon, from the light polluted skies of the SF Bay Area.

This is a straight LRGB using about 10 hours of data - selected from more than 20 hours collected over 5 nights.

I always like the star fields and dust lanes in this region, but I cropped the image a bit to show more of the nebula. Which do you prefer?

Hi Michael,

Great looking images,I like both but do prefer the wider field as well.

Hi Mike,

Terrific shot! Each representation offers something unique. I say keep them all! This is especially impressive given you're shooting at a light-polluted location (what is your limiting magnitude?).

On my work monitor, the background shows a touch of a green cast. It's probably what you describe with the blue lacking a bit, perhaps?
