Back to greyscale practice :-((

Hello everyone,

after my failure at producing a decent color image, I'm back to greyscale practicing sad

Here is an M42 taken while waiting for the moon to be in a good position to shoot some avis. So these are 5 10min subs plus 5 1min subs average combined and then merged in PS using the color range tool: good practice, OK result (to my eyes, naturally). Frankly I paid much more attention to the core correction than to the rest of the image. I will get to that as soon as I collect more data wink

Needless to say, your input is always well appreciated

Luca

Luca, that is a wonderful shot! Excellent detail & contrast! 8)
But what do you mean you weren't able to produce a decent color shot? (I do not recall seeing anything bad/not good/awful from you... or anybody here...)

Don't be too harsh on yourself, and keep at it... giving up color imaging "should not be it"... 8)

Luca,
The image is lovely! The detail incredible. And, it looks like you could pull out lots of subtle detail in the darker areas if you push the data a little. Man that setup of yours is really something special. Nicely done.

Luca,
Very nice M42 and great detail. I'm not sure you really need any more practice at monochrome images. I think you should give color a try again. Remember in color its all about balance between the channels.

Typically I take great care to preserve the correct intensity scale between the RGB channels. Whatever I do to one channel, I do to all equally. When I saw yor last color attempt - it seemed you were individually scaling or stretching the RGB exposures.
