If I were to invest in some CCD Image Capture and Editing software, which of these would your recommend?

CCDSoft or MaximDL.

Thanks,
Chris

CCDSoft does not support all cameras, for instance the Meade DSI.
CCDStack does great stacking and some post processing and Photoshop with the fits liberator is best for most real post processing and combining of colored fits files.
At least for me.

Astroart for capture and stacking. Also very good for processing. I began processing with that and AIP4Win since AA was far cheaper than Maxim, and AIP came with the book which is great. AIP also has many automated routines that makes for great learning. But I have since gravitated to PixInsight for postprocessing (it's still free but they keep promisting the commercial release soon.)
I know this doesn't answer the question, but I haven't used either one on your list.

Chris,

Just sticking to your list, I would pick MaximDL, though CCDSoft does come with SBIG cameras.

CCDSoft is a great image acquisition program, but thin on post-processing. From what I hear (no actual experience here), CCDSoft combined with CCDStack is a killer combo.

In my case, I bought Maxim before CCDStack came out. I haven't felt like I'm missing 1/3 of my life without CCDStack yet, as Maxim is not only a better image acquisition program than CCDSoft (no offense to CCDSoft, but Maxim has a richer set of imaging options), but is also a great post-processing software. While I do all my finishing work in Photoshop, I know of at least one imager who does all his post-processing in MaximDL.
