This the first use of my new ha filter. Its amazing to me that you can get even this much detail with a 3/4 moon so close. This is the best focus I could get under poor seeing (I think, is there some way to tell? :S ) I am still dreaming of the little square stars which I see in your postings.

Nice shot Victor!
So many things to capture, so many things to buy, so much to learn...

What equipment/settings you used to get this shot?
Keep it up, and thanks for sharing! wink

Nice image Steve. You managed to capture some nice detail in and around the horsehead itself. I am working on my focusing technique too. It is really quite difficult to get things right. Thanks for sharing.
Cheers,
Tyler

Cool! Ha is fun when the moon is full. Are you using any kind of focus aid? I've found I can get very close with the diffraction method then switch to a very dim star and concentrate on getting it tight and bright. I just got back from a trip late this afternoon and found clear skies!!! The Horsehead was well positioned so I'm imaging it in H-a as I write. I'm using a 6nm filter which may give me tighter stars but I found Alnitak was just right for focusing and tracking. If I get anything decent I'll post it tomorrow.

Hi Steve,
Very nice shot...When I do a manual focus, I usually go with the lowest FWHM value and the highest max pixel value. I often image in less than desirable seeing, so I know what you are going through...
