Well, we had a couple of nights suitable for imaging. Now the clouds are back.
In the meantime, I decided to do a quick processing of some incomplete data to see what I had with this Work In Progress.
This rarely imaged reflection nebula is faint; I'm working with 30 minute color subexposures.
There's a lesson to be learned here: I should have framed this better at the start. There's some interesting stuff off-frame to the lower left, but now I don't want to give up my hard earned exposures here to start over.

Dan,
That target sure shows great promise (Heck, I'd be happy with it as is!). That dark dust lane in particular looks real interesting. And, yes, don't you kick yourself when you realized you should have framed better and face that dilemma? The other night after spending some time on the Rosette (I'll post later) I shot M81 and M82 real quickly once they rose above my rooftop. Not the best composition, but I figure it's like an artist's study for the real painting to come. Maybe that's a method to follow! For what it's worth, that is such in interesting object you've found (and rare) I bet you'll be happy in the long run to capture it in its entirety. (I know I'm curious about the rest of it!)

Larry

Definitely a nice shot and some interesting stuff going on...I know what you are taking about re: framing. I always take the time now to take a heavily binned 2-3 minute initial exposure just to see if I should re-frame. Sometimes it pays off...

A BEAUTY!
What a wonderful wide field shot Dan...
Gotta love that scope of yours, as it is probably one of the best for the task... wink
