Another Southern gem. The beautiful Small Magellanic cloud with its
subtle colours. This is a naked eye object at a dark site along with its
nearby in the sky at least big brother - the Large Magellanic cloud.

They are both close to the South Celestial Pole and sort of form a clock in that
you can kind of tell the time by seeing where they have rotated to around the pole.

This is a companion galaxy to our Milky Way.

Canon 200mm FD F2.8 lens stopped down to F5.6.

Sbig STL11002M camera and Astrodon filters.

A rather short exposure HaLRGB 15 10 5 5 5 at -35C!

Taken under very dark skies and very ideal conditions
(and I mean really nice - a really clear, calm, dark, transparent night - now the full Milky
Way has set in the southern skies the night sky is considerably darker).

I had my Tak NJP mount really hopping with under .1 pixel tracking errors - the most
accurate I have ever achieved. Thanks to a few callibration tips I picked up from the Sbig
Yahoo Group plus close and careful attention to the basics.

Greg.
