Currently have a basic DSI color. I am willing to spend up to $700 - cost of the DSI Pro ll w/ filters. For the money, what is the best camera to get? Thanks for all opinions!

I would suggest an ST-7, they can be found for about $700. Although they are monochrome, they take excellent pictures.

I would second the recommendation for an ST-7, but another good option would be a Starlight Xpress MX716, preferably with the USB 1.1 adapter.

Also, Orion has their new Deep Space Imager, which looks to be better than their old one, which was pretty good for a cheap camera.

I can certainly second Bob's endorsement of a MX716. I've been very happy with mine. Lots or options these days!

Hello Scott.

Just a thought... have you considered a DSLR camera? The Canon 300D does and excellent job and you can get one for about $350. You'll need a couple of adapters, from Orion at about $45. It can be completely oontrolled via a laptop. The only issue is it's not cooled.
