Mars captured last night from my backyard in Buffalo... nine degrees fahrenheit:

Took me most of today to get the feeling back in my fingers!

Nice. Too cold for me. Looks like we'll be overcast for at least a week. At least I got a few near oppisition shots in.

I'm out right now trying my first ever planetary imaging. Mars is absolutely swimming in the seeing. Dew is fixing to form. Betelgeuse is twinkling! But, amazingly, I did manage to see some white on one end of the planet in the L sequence. On a good night, I may be able to pull this off!

Alan,

Wow, that was worth the cold! I love the way you bring out the detail in the NPC.

Hi Al:

Your color balance is consistantly the most accurate around!
Nine degrees, it must have felt like you were standing on Mars instead of imaging it. 8O

I don't know how you always capture the detail, but more importantly, the beauty. It is inspiring. The right tools in the hands of an artist. Thankyou.

The facts might change, but my opinion won't change, no matter what the facts are.

What a result though! It was well worth the time...at least for us, so we get to see this lovely image.

However, I have found a great pair of gloves for our hobby: they are made by Millet a French company that makes mountaneering equipment (here is their US website http://www.milletusa.com/) These gloves leave the tips of your fingers open, but when you don't need to use your fingers anymore there is a nice cover that attaches with a velcro to the back of the glove and that can be pulled up to cover the four fingers and there is also a separate one for your thumb! I find them fantastic, but here it never gets to 9F!!

If you can't find them I can look them up here and send them to you.

Ciao Alan
