Attached is my first image of Mars. I obtained it last night at F22 with a CG14 and a Toucam. No darkframe and image processing other than Registax.

Are those orographic (blue) clouds on the North (?) pole or is it some other phenomenon?

Clear skies....

Jim P.

James,

Great image. There is another recent posting that shows the same cloud in the north. Keep them coming!

It was probably an "8", the air being very stable and Mars directly overhead. The temp was about 85 degrees with about 90% humidity, not dark but very stable, I used about 470 power to view with no degradation in the image. I got clouded out last night but will try again tonight.....

Thanks, I am not familiar with the blue channel but I'll look into it. During all my 2003 visual observations I never saw this scale of cloud formation over the pole.
Is this something extraordinary or does it occur all the time?

Thanks and clear skies.
