Hello, I am currently using the following setup:
Thinkpad PIII 450 next to my mount running Maxim, The Sky, RoboFocus. I am controlling this system through a Wireless B setup using Tight VNC software. The machine that I control this with is a P4 1.6 on the same wan. I get pretty good respnse time if I run the server machine at 800x600. Its just useable. I was wondering if I upgraded to a G wireless setup (or something else) would it make a big difference? BTW, the current wan hardware is all Linksys.
Thanks!!

Quick question Chris...
How do things run on the laptop itself, without doing the remote control? is it there a DRAMATIC difference from doing it local/remote?

How far are your systems located from each other?
Can you run Ethernet cable instead, and run it at 100mbps...? remember that "regular" wireless is limited to 11mbps, and "normally" you don't get even half of that...

I think the laptop is "probably" your weakest link, not necessarily your network setup... (IMHO)

Let me know if I can help,

Chris, just a quick FYI.

WAN = Wide Area Network
WLAN = Wireless Local Area Network

Not a big deal but I thought I'd let you know in case you post about this in the future. You don't want people to read WAN in your subject line and think you're trying to control a scope in another city or state.

Chris,

I'm running a similar setup with Linksys G, and it doesn't "feel" much different than being directly connected. I'm very happy with it.
