My humble dob

Me and my humble dob at the Wisconsin Observers Weekend (WOW).

Wish I could include a picture of my canine observing companion, but he's gone to the Dog Star just last March. This was my first trip out without him - sure do miss the old boy.

If you are in the midwest, the WOW is a real nice event. Sponsored by the Newstar group.

Sweet the coming on
Of grateful evening mild; then silent night
With this her solemn bird and this fair moon,
And these the gems of heaven, her starry train.

I had a friend make some modifications. He took the weight from behind the mirror cell, drilled some ventilation holes in it, and mounted it outside the tube. It cools down much faster now (Thanks Ed!).

heh heh heh heh.....gotcha!

Actually I was going to, but all I have is an old low-res digi camera and as you can see the pics aren't very good. Besides, the picture thread on the other forum is long gone, and Bill, I don't think you've put yourself up there yet!

And James, my head better not appear on anything like Bev or Petra's bodies, okay?

Thanks, my friends!

Christine:

First and foremost, sorry to hear about your canine angel. May he, Sirius and Procyon shine together forever. Always tough to loose ones' best friend.

I once owned the venerable Meade 8" Dob model you own. Great optics, but poor ventilation as others have noted. I drilled holes in both the top and bottom of the tub and mounted a small fan at the row of top holes. Big improvement.

Clear skies!

Well, glad you enjoyed it, Christine. Although I was there I don't recall meeting you. I had the Celestron Nexstar 11GPS and the right hand drive Jeep Cherokee with US Mail on the side . I'm one of the founders of both NEWSTAR and WOW.

Christine,

When was this WOW event? Are there more throughout the summer?
