A few weeks ago I had the chance to take a look in a, being a Ham radio operator the sun has been of some interest me to me for a long time. After my first look in the PST I new I had to get me one. But now I see that Coronado has ( is ) coming out with a new PST the Coronado PST CaK.

Can any one help with the pro's & con's between the H-Alpha and th CaK filtering. I'm new to this Sol stuff so be gentle.

Thanks for your help.
Bob

Hello Robert!

By reading a bit into Coronado's website information, here's what I understood...

First, the Ha & the CaK versions of the PST have different transmission lines, allowing you to view different features of the Sun. It does seem though that the CaK version is MORE geared towards imaging as they mention that not all observers will be able to VIEW much "optically" talking... (blue/purple image instead of red)

If imaging is in your plan, then having either/both would be great. But if you just want to observe, then the Ha version might be what you want...

Just my .02 pesos, use them wisely! wink

Bob-

I would second Ivan's recommendation to explore H-Alpha first. Be sure to ask this question on the Coronado forum too.
