To all,

What is the job of a forum moderator?? I have not seen any explanation on any of the forums nor have I seen any evidence of moderator interaction thereupon.

Davie, I can only speak for my two forums(Reflectors & Home Observatories). There has not been One exchange that has needed moderating! Mostly It's just people answering questions or offering advice. And patting each other on the back as we learn the finer points of observatory construction. Mods have the ability to delete posts, Thats all. I am sure you might get some different views from the mods in the "Politics" or "Religion" forums

I have occasionally seen a moderator step forward and suggest that participants keep to the topic or to the rules. But mostly they do their job by participating in the discussion which is where they are most helpful.

David, as others have mentioned, our "job" is pretty much to keep the threads "on topic" & clean, and the Forum "active"...

I agree with what Ivan mentioned about keeping the forum active. I tired that a bit early on with the Nikon forum and maybe on the User Film and CCD Photos forum with little success. I thought of holding a contest for one of Herb's 24" Starmaster's to get things jump started but I thought he might get pissed.

Mostly though I try to keep my eye on bad behavior and stir the pot elsewhere on the site to make it fun for all the other moderators.

In other words I am here often enough without being too proactive.

I read Politics and Religion to get a good laugh at how serious people can be but I steer clear of posting there for the most part. I am not as smart as those people and I am afraid of getting found out.

David,

The members of my forum (CCD Processing/Solar System) are very classy folks. They make my job almost non-existant.
